I’ve been shooting primarily with Canon lenses and cameras since 2005. Here is a summary of my lens tests, comparisons and recommendations.
Especially in the first 5 years of my photography I used and tried many different lenses. Today I shoot almost exclusively with these three Canon lenses:
The current 18-55mm kit lens in each case. Currently it is the Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS STM. The image quality of the Canon 18-55mm kits has become really good. I have no urge to get another standard zoom.
The Canon EF-S 10-22mm USM. My absolute workhorse. About 90% of the images in the portfolio were taken with this lens. I continue to be thrilled with the sharpness.
When I want to take detail shots with less depth of field, I use the Canon EF 50mm 1.8 STM. It has replaced my old EF 50mm 1.8 II.

Sigma lenses for Canon
Another lens worth mentioning from my point of view for Canon APS-C cameras is the Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC HSM Art.
Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC HSM Art
Sigma 30mm F1.4 DC HSM Art
Most cameras require it to be adjusted with the Sigma dock for the autofocus to hit reliably. This process takes sometimes two hours, but after that you have one of the best lenses for Canon APS-C. It’s super sharp in the center even at open aperture. What I especially love about this lens is the bokeh. I shot entire series with my Canon EOS 77D and the Sigma 30mm F1.4.
The counterpart for Canon full-frame DSLRs to this lens is the Sigma 50mm F1.4 DG HSM Art. On the full-frame sensor, of course, it delivers even less depth of field and the softer bokeh.
Recommendations for Canon lenses by type
Since I read a lot on forums, always checking what’s new and looking around at what other photographers are using, I’ve written a few recommendations for Canon lenses. You can read them here:
Canon wide angle lens
Canon telephoto lens
Canon fixed focal length
If you need more ideas about photo equipment, I have listed what else I use on my recommendations page.
